Where History Was Made. Merdeka! (Independence!)

- On 19th May, the square will play host to the street parade "Colours of 1Malaysia" where Malaysians of all backgrounds showcase special performances - a display of cultural diversity.
- There will be a special performance by Malaysian Army and Police Bands from 17:00-18:00 on the third Saturday of each month at Dataran Merdeka.
Just right here! The Union Jack was lowered and Malaysia's flag raised, which represents the end of British rule in 1957. The square was a cricket green and rugby field owned by Royal Selangor Club and now is taken over by city council. The Legacy Britain Left Behind

- At night, the building is lighted up with hundreds of light bulbs to add conviviality to the city.
- On Malaysia Independence Day (31st August), the building is a backdrop for National Day Parade, a reminder of how far the nation has come since British rule.
Designed by A.C. Norman, Sultan Abdul Samad Building was the British's administrative place for important government departments.
